3D Quality Vs Quantity?

At OCS Studios we believe that quality is better than quantity.

There are many studios out there who will churn out lots of images in a short period of time, but we prefer to do less in the way of images, but concentrate on the quality side of things.

We get a lot of people coming to us, wanting to have us do Architectural Renderings for them. In many cases, we see that they have already had 3D work done but it is not up to the standard required.

This brings us to a key point, cost versus quality. Simply put, realise it’s cheaper for a reason. There are studios who will provide stunning images at a low cost, there are studios who will provide OK images at an OK cost and there are studios with a lot of hidden extra costs – so the message is, make sure you know what you are paying for.

CGIs can make a lot of money in pre-sales or cut down your workload by getting client and investor approvals faster.

Watercolour Images

If a client finds the nature of a photorealistic 3D design too clinical, watercolour architectural renderings serve to soften the image and allow the viewer to not get stuck on the exactness but give a flexibility between the designer and the client.

3D Watercolour Renderings

There may be times when there will be a need for 3D images which have a watercolour or relaxed feel.

If a client finds the nature of a photorealistic 3D visual is too clinical or exact,  watercolour architectural renderings serve to soften the image and allows the viewer to not get stuck on the exactness but use their imagination to create the space or building in their mind.

Another reason could be that one does not have all of the design elements worked out or are trying to get the look and feed approved instead of a sign off on exact elements.

Finally, if one wishes to simply give an impression of what the space or design may look like instead of being locked into it being a photoreal image.

3D Design – Product Images

At OCS Studios we have seen a huge increase in manufacturers and suppliers asking for our services in the areas of 3D Models, Architectural Models, Product Renderings and Product Visualisation.

Why? Simple answers are speed, cost and flexibility. It is cheaper by far for the manufacturer to have a 3D Visualizer create the item in 3D.

In the past, if you wanted to create a catalogue to portfolio your furniture or other products, you would have to build them in the real world, in the different finishes you produce and then you would have to take them to a studio or site, set them up and then get photos done. After that, get any needed post production work done and then create your portfolio.

Doing the work in 3D has many benefits.

The first are the obvious ones, these being cost and speed but also the ability to make changes at very little cost. Additionally, you can change finishes and colours with relative ease, thus negating the need to build a whole new item, which in some cases can become very expensive.

Another important factor is if you are trying to get your product out, having the model available for download on your site in numerous formats, will allow architects, designers or 3D Studios access to them to use in the designs or creations – thus getting exposure for your product!

Here are some graphical examples of how 3D modelling and rendering can benefit your production and profitability.

Product or Furniture Modelling

Furniture and Product Rendering

A step further to simple product modelling is creating realistic looking images which can be added to a catalogue or a website.

Lifestyle or Studio Creations

The ultimate in the 3D set up could be taking your furniture and setting it up in a lifelike scene, so that it looks like it is actually there in the real world – saving huge amounts of time and money.
